About DEHSART

DEHSART >> that’s the word TRASHED spelled backwards << building awareness, support and engagement to educate and transform illegal dumping activity through community action, art interventions and mapping.

DEHSART – launched by Karyl Newman and Larissa Nickel – combines prevention, awareness and outreach through artistic engagement and environmental education surrounding the issue of illegal dumping in the Mojave Desert. Cultivating social connections, collective action, and civic empowerment our goal is to help transform our landscape through small interventions of public art that will tell a story of environmental resources and inspire change in our ecosystem.

DEHSART is generously funded by a grant from the Antelope Valley Illegal Dumping Task Force, made possible by LA County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich’s Antelope Valley Office, Waste Management, the City of Lancaster, the City of Palmdale, and citizens like you. Together we can make a difference.
