After finding a carcass and plenty of other bones in our trash scouts the silent issue of illegally dumped and abandoned animals plagues our desert. The issue generated some alarming testimonies on our facebook page. Readers reported finding horses tied to trees and two calves tied together and left to die. Anyone who abandons an animal is subject to a $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail. (California Penal Code Sec. 597S).
